Zakatul fitr

Zakatul fitr means zakat for individual which refers to zakat payment being paid during the month of Ramadhan just before eidul fitr. The rate is approximately 2.3kg of the staple food or its equivalent value of the country.

It is an obligatory for all individual Muslim to be paid once a lunar year with the following conditions:

• muslim
• mukallaf
• free man
• ability to pay zakatul fitr
• living during or before the sunset on the eve of eidul fitr on the last day of Ramadhan.

The zakatul fitr can be paid in term of cash equivalents as stipulated by the governing authorities.
