- needy muslims (fakir)

- poor muslims (miskin)
- those who don't have means of income but little properties or income but insufficient to cater their daily needs.
- aamil
- peole who are appointed by the religious authority to collect and administer zakat payment.
- new converts to Islam
- fir riqaab
- freeing slave from his master or captive of war.
- al-ghaarimeen
- muslims who are in debt with the three categories:
- a person who is in debt because of solving two people in dispute but unable to pay.
- a person who is in debt because of self interest due to permissible or impermissible needs and is repentant but unable to pay.
- a person who is in debt because standing as a guarantor but unable to pay.
- fisabilillah
- those who strive in the cause of Allah to stop injustice against muslims.
- ibnu sabil
- those who are travelling for good purposes.

Recipients of zakat
There are 8 categories of people entitled to receive zakat as what stipulated in the Qur'an.
