Recipients of zakat

There are 8 categories of people entitled to receive zakat as what stipulated in the Qur'an.
  • needy muslims (fakir)
    • those who don't have properties or means of income or income less than half of their daily needs.
  • poor muslims (miskin)
    • those who don't have means of income but little properties or income but insufficient to cater their daily needs.
  • aamil
    • peole who are appointed by the religious authority to collect and administer zakat payment.
  • new converts to Islam
  • fir riqaab
    • freeing slave from his master or captive of war.
  • al-ghaarimeen
    • muslims who are in debt with the three categories:
      • a person who is in debt because of solving two people in dispute but unable to pay.
      • a person who is in debt because of self interest due to permissible or impermissible needs and is repentant but unable to pay.
      • a person who is in debt because standing as a guarantor but unable to pay.
  • fisabilillah
    • those who strive in the cause of Allah to stop injustice against muslims.
  • ibnu sabil
    • those who are travelling for good purposes.
